Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

Not everyone gets an opportunity to leave high school and further their education the traditional way at a tertiary institution. Some people cannot afford to study further, so they find themselves going straight from high school into the work industry. This can be an advantageous position because you gain work experience that most companies look for.

The challenge comes when you are looking for a promotion and a way to get your earnings increased. You find yourself in a situation when you see people who know less than you advance quicker just because they hold a qualification. If you find yourself in this position, then the recognition of prior learning is something you should look into.

If you find that:

  • A lack of a formal qualification is standing in your way and blocking future opportunities,

  • You have been working for quite some time and have acquired a number of skills along the way, and

  • You want to develop your skills and career further based on your work experience.

RPL is a way of recognizing informal training and experience gained in the workplace or within the community. The skills, competencies and experience you have acquired is valuable and can be used to help you gain credits that count towards a formal Certificate, Diploma or Degree.

RPL can be the stepping stone you need to lifelong learning without wasting time studying things that you already know. At KG Business Development, we are qualified to recognize prior learning that took place in a variety of settings, as recommended by the NQF principles. We offer assessments and advice, as well as the necessary documents for your RPL.
